Why does the small intestine double in length post-mortem?

Answer:
I don't think I've ever heard of this. It may be possible- the muscles all relax, so the small intestine is at its full length, I guess.
Bflute is correct. When the body is alive, smooth muscles are tone and the intestines are shortened. When the body dies, the muscles no longer hold tension and the intestines relax.
