Why does period pain reliever Midol have new warnings on its box?

I have always used Midol, but I saw New warnings on the box, which stated, "Allergy Alert, Stomach bleeding alert." Does anyone know why these warnings came into effect? Were there any individuals harmed by this medicine? It also says is may cause increased risk for heart attack/stroke. I dug up info on ibuprofen and in severe cases heart attack/stroke occured without warning, or was sudden, not for those who took medicine containing ibuprofen, such as Midol. Does this have to do with the F.D.A.'s black box warningS?
Answer:
The FDA puts black box warnings on medications if there are reports that these side effects or adverse effects have occured in people who have taken ibuprofen. The reason they have put this on the box about ibuprofen is that if ibuprofen is taken in a high enough dose and more often than every 4 to 6 hours, then it can increase your chance of developing a bleeding ulcer. The reason for this is that ibuprofen blocks your pain by blocking the production of prostaglandins in your body. Prostaglandins are produced by an enzyme known as COX. Ibuprofen blocks both forms of COX...COX 1 and COX 2. COX 1 is pretty important in that it maintains the mucous that is important in protecting your stomach from the strong stomach acid that it produces to break down food. Since ibuprofen is not only blocking your pain, but also blocking the enzyme that helps with the production of stomach mucous, your stomach develops a much greater chance of forming an ulcer from your stomach acid. As for the allergy thing, some people must have experienced an allergic reaction, or shock, after taking ibuprofen, so now it is required for the FDA to put this on the Midol box.I would not be alarmed by this. Unless you are taking higher than the recommended dose or more often than the directions tell you, I would not be worried. 200mg of ibuprofen is not much. This warning is mostly for people who would take an excessive amount of ibuprofen, are allergic to ibuprofen, or take it with another medication that is related to or works in the same way that ibuprofen does.Hope this helps!
I would recommend searching google or something to locate the exact reason, but I imagine someone had an issue with it or it wouldn't be on the box
Its a legal thing to stop law suits.Like the warning on McDonald coffee. "caution contents hot" This is America we have to keep lawyers in business.
as the product gets used more, more and more incedents are reported do t that matter alone and legal isues they have to be listed on the packege insert.
